Welcome to Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery for African American hair transplant in NYC on Park Avenue.

Our NYC plastic surgeons offer experienced hair restoration services to correct receding hairlines, thinning, and balding of the scalp, with procedures tailored specifically for Black hair.

Restoring hair follicles for afro-textured hair.

Black men and women with afro-textured hair may experience hair loss or may be particularly prone to traction alopecia, a form of hair loss caused by the constant pulling that comes with woven or braided hairstyles.

Unfortunately, these hairstyles may come with a significant disadvantage: they continuously pull at your scalp. Over time, this pull can damage the hair follicles and result in traction alopecia. This type of hair loss often begins for men and women as early as their 30s and continues as they age, resulting in high use of hats and wigs for many as they reach the 30s and 40s.

You may also experience hair loss that is not from traction alopecia. Hair loss can be a source of severe discomfort and perhaps embarrassment from thinning hair.

Fortunately, advances in hair transplant technology have enabled us to perform highly effective African American hair transplants in NYC in our Park Avenue office, with astounding results.

Methods for African American Hair Transplant

We offer two distinct methods of afro-textured hair transplants, each of which is ideal for different hairstyles, conditions, and other factors unique to each patient.

FUE Transplants

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplantation is a method the hair surgeon removes individual follicles from a donor site on the back of your head and then transplants them to the target area. FUE transplants leave very tiny, practically invisible scars and are ideal for those with short hairstyles.

FUT Transplants

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) hair transplantation is the more traditional method where the hair surgeon removes a donor “strip” from the back of your scalp. While this does leave a more visible scar, this method is much faster and enables us to perform a more comprehensive transplant. FUT transplants are ideal for those with longer hairstyles, as long hair easily covers up the scar.

FUE Procedure

Recovery & Results

As with any surgical procedure, the first step is an in-person consultation where we can discuss your goals and come to an understanding of what the best option is to accomplish them.

Once we have determined that an FUE hair transplant is right for you, we will design your new and improved hairline and then get to work.

An FUE hair transplant can take anywhere from two to four hours, as each follicle must be individually harvested and then carefully implanted into the target areas.

Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. They simply relax, listen to music or watch TV throughout the procedure.

Once your FUE hair transplant is complete, you can return home to recover for 2 to 3 days, after which you will be free to return to your daily activities. We recommend avoiding strenuous activity for the first 7 to 10 days while your newly transplanted hair settles in the new locations.

Within the first 2 to 3 weeks, you can expect to see your newly transplanted hair begin to shed, which indicates that it’s been fully re-incorporated into your scalp. It usually takes 3 to 4 months before you see the new hair really begin to grow, and it can take up to a year before the hair is fully grown in.

The good news: your results can last 10 years or more! Furthermore, if you continue to experience continued hair loss over time, many patients receive second or third FUE hair transplants to maintain their new and improved look.

Recovery & Results

The results from an African American hair transplant in NYC from Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery can be truly life changing, making you look and feel completely revitalized.

FUE Hair Transplant – An FUT hair transplant always begins with a consultation where we fully educate you on the procedure, perform a detailed analysis of your existing hair and scalp, and design your FUT hair transplant procedure.

FUT Hair Transplant – An FUT hair transplant always begins with a consultation where we fully educate you on the procedure, perform a detailed analysis of your existing hair and scalp, and design your FUT hair transplant procedure.

FUE Procedure – An FUE hair transplant can take anywhere from two to four hours, as each follicle must be individually harvested and then carefully implanted into the target areas. Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. They simply relax, listen to music or watch TV throughout the procedure.

FUT Procedure – We will proceed to identify and prepare the donor site for extraction for the hair transplant. Once we’ve prepared the donor site, we will excise a small strip from your scalp and immediately close the incision with nylon sutures. The donor strip is then carefully processed. The follicles are individually removed and prepared for transplant and integration into the target areas of your scalp.

Once we’re ready to begin the transplant, the target area of your scalp will be numbed with local anesthesia for your comfort. Tiny incisions will then be made throughout the target area of your scalp and the new grafts will be inserted.

FUE – Once your FUE hair transplant is complete, you can return home to recover for 2 to 3 days, after which you will be free to return to your daily activities. We recommend avoiding strenuous activity for the first 7 to 10 days while your newly transplanted hair settles in the new locations.

The good news: your results can last 10 years or more! Furthermore, if you continue to experience continued hair loss over time, many patients receive second or third FUE hair transplants to maintain their new and improved look.

FUT – Once the transplant is complete, we will gently cleanse your scalp and give you detailed aftercare instructions to ensure the transplant is successful. Most patients are sufficiently recovered to resume most activities within a few days, with limitations on actions that are strenuous or outdoors.

After 10 days, you will return to our Manhattan clinic to have the sutures removed. Within the first couple of weeks, you can expect to see the newly transplanted hair shedding. This shedding is a normal and healthy part of the process as your newly transplanted follicles initiate a new growth cycle! You can expect real hair growth within the first 3 to 4 months, after which it will grow normally along with the rest of your hair.
